Tractus Littorales Guineae a Promontorio Verde usque ad Sinum Catenbale. 1715. Louis Renard
19 1/4” x 22 3/8”. Black and white. A fine example.
A handsome. Large-scale sea chart of the Slave Coast, which shows the coast of West Africa from approximately Cape Verde in the north to the Congo River in the south. Renard bought the printing plate from the firm of Frederick De Wit, and updated it. A large cartouche at upper center gives a graphic depiction of the slave trade, with finely dressed Europeans bartering with native and Arab traders for captives.
